Dr Elton trained at Charing Cross Hospital London University and completed her GP Training at West Middlesex University Hospital. She joined a partnership in Bramley Leeds in 1990 and gained the Royal College of General Practitioner membership exams in 1991. She remained a full time partner until 2016.

Whilst a partner she had lead roles in Substance Misuse Management, Diabetes and was Employment Lead for the practice which employed 40 members of staff. To support these roles she gained the Postgraduate Certificate in Law, the Diploma in Occupational Health, the postgraduate Diabetes diploma and the Substance Misuse Management certificates parts 1 and 2 and Alcohol Certificates. She has been an Appraiser since 2007.During this time she worked very hard to support members of staff in their roles. She also did sessions as part of the Substance Misuse Services in Bramley for some time before the service was taken back in house under the Shared Care Scheme.

On reaching the age of 55 she left partnership in 2016, and managed to address her work life balance challenges, by becoming a Locum in Chambers and a Clinician for the PHS scheme. She also continues as an Appraiser.

Outside work she enjoys spending as much time as possible at home with her husband and cat, travelling, music, gardening.
