Dr Kath O'Hara
I'm Kath O’Hara and I have recently left working in General Practice to focus on my role at NHS PH as shared clinical lead for London/South. I started working at PH in May 2021 and find the work wonderfully interesting, allowing me to blend all my clinical interests. I previously worked as a GP partner and am an experienced generalist. I have had a diverse and varied clinical experience, having studied medicine as a mature student.
I am passionate about supporting optimal mental health and well-being having an empathetic, caring, and pragmatic approach to my work. I have a good insight and understanding of the pressures and difficulties faced by doctors and HCP and the associated challenges they can face in seeking appropriate support. The ability to walk alongside a colleague during a time of significant adversity, whilst maintaining kindness and sanctuary is a privilege.
Throughout my career, I have maintained clinical breath, enjoying complexity and challenge. I have significant experience in mental health, having moved to GP training after a few years as a core psychiatry trainee. During a portfolio GP career, I developed expertise in palliative care having worked as a hospice specialty doctor. I have also worked within the Category B HMP Lewes as a GP, with a complex, vulnerable patient cohort. More philosophical interests have been explored when I studied for an MA in Medical Ethics and Law.
Outside of work, I enjoy the simple pleasures of life with my family and our puppy who brings joy and melts hearts in equal measure. I enjoy the Sussex countryside whilst road cycling, with of course the obligatory coffee!
I am delighted to be taking on a clinical lead role at NHS PH and look forward to working with you all.
